Athens, April 8, 2024.- With great success and the participation of over 60 students of the Postgraduate Programs of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, namely “Development of new drugs: research, launch and access” and “Thoracic oncology: modern clinical-laboratory approach and research,” the event “Career Day” took place on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the central hotel in Athens, in collaboration with the Hellenic Association of Pharmaceutical Companies (SFEE).
The “Career Day” provided an opportunity for more than sixty (60) postgraduate students from the aforementioned programs to engage with the labor market. They interacted with representatives from pharmaceutical companies that are members of SFEE, as well as medical groups. The students gained insights into the prospects and dynamics of the pharmaceutical industry, as well as emerging trends and career opportunities in the field of Health. During the event, more than 220 interviews between companies and students/alumni of the Postgraduate Programs were conducted through prearranged appointments.
In her welcome address, Ms. Maria Leontari, SFEE’s Communications Director, stated: “The pharmaceutical sector’s total impact on the Greek economy, in terms of GDP, is estimated at €6.2 billion (3.3% of GDP), with a total contribution to employment estimated at 108,000 jobs. Furthermore, the sector’s impact on tax revenues is estimated at around €1.7 billion. The pharmaceutical sector surpasses all others in investment in research, development, and innovation. Today’s success of the “Career Day” underscores the industry’s need for crucial scientific expertise and, more importantly, skilled human resources. SFEE and its member companies consistently invest in the development of young professionals through lifelong learning programs. Thus, we operate with our main criterion the constant search for innovation, utilizing the skills and capabilities of the country’s human resources and giving opportunities and incentives to the creativity and energy of young people.”
The Professor of Internal Medicine-Oncology of the Medical School of the University of Athens and Director of the Third University Clinic of Internal Medicine and Homonymous Laboratory, General Hospital “Sotiria”, Mr. Konstantinos Syrigos stated: “Now more than ever, in an ever-evolving environment, everyone – businesses, employees, and particularly young professionals – requires an atmosphere of optimism, foresight, vision, and new opportunities. The extensive and enthusiastic participation of students and companies in the “Career Day” validates the role and contribution of the pharmaceutical and medical sectors to society at large. Today, our students had the opportunity to explore prospects for entrepreneurship and employment in the Healthcare sector, while companies showcased its immense growth potential, fostering a brighter future for all.”
